It’s too late to answer, seems you have already solve, anyway, the help on this and other problems can be founded at w3it.org forums.
The new release of the w3images gallery plugin (1.0.1) is ready to be released anyway. It add several features, including thumbs on your blog pages from gallery, upload images also for users (easy permission setting added for w3images plugin admin interface). Stay tuned!
The plugin as been relased. First version (complete admin interface, still comments feature not added). But i think is very useful (and beautiful) as is 😉
