Thank you for your prompt reply.

As a merchant, I find this unfortunate, as I feel that we are losing functionality.

Indeed, the current display was already available when an attribute had been created for a variable product without specifying the individual variations.

This new display has two consequences for us:

    • First, we can no longer distinguish between products that are permanently out of stock and those that are temporarily unavailable. We used to have the current non-clickable display for products that we do not intend to restock, and the clickable “Out of stock” display for products that we know we will receive again.
    • Furthermore, for products that are temporarily out of stock but that we know will be available again, the current setup prevents customers from requesting a quote for a future pickup. This can potentially result in lost sales.

We never experienced any misunderstanding with the previous “Out of stock” display. On the contrary, it provided a consistent message for both products with variations and products without variations.

I hope my arguments may resonate with you, as from a merchant’s perspective, the previous behaviour was actually more useful and coherent with other woocommerce products.

    Best regards,

    Justine
