In reply to: Expert help please — how to add space above primary menu in headerthank you tara, i just got it resolved. i added
#access {
margin-top:65px;
}to my css. easy! thanks.
Thanks Marcellas,
I added that and it moved the menu over to the left a little bit (creating a larger gap between the word CONTACT and the facebook icon, but it didn’t change the location of the dividing lines.
In case my description wasn’t clear, I’m basically trying to remove the dividing line that is before the word MUSIC in the menu, and if possible also add one after the word CONTACT.
Thanks again 🙂

In reply to: Help creating a header menu — wisdom needed [Theme: Tempera}Just to let you know, your instructions worked and I now have the icons in my primary menu! And it is all in line thanks to the code you gave me above that.
I am still trying to figure out this random pixel/graphics issue. But it is small so if I can’t solve it I will survive 🙂
I am wondering if I can disable the top bar and add some spacing between the header/menu and the top of the page some other way. Right now if I have the top bar enabled, you can’t see anything unless you look at it via a mobile phone — then there is a horizontal line. I’d like to get rid of that by turning off the top bar and instead adding spacing so that the site title and menu don’t jump to the top of the screen.
is there an easy way to do that?
Thanks again for all of your help.

In reply to: Help me solve a bizarre graphics problem in my header!!!Also, now that I have nothing in my top bar, I would like to turn it off within my theme, because when I view it in mobile I get a horizontal line. If I do this, though, the header jumps up to the top of my screen, and I would like to maintain that spacing.
Is there a way to add space between my header/menu and the top of the screen so that I can turn off the top bar?
Thanks!

I understand what you mean about making the title into a logo, but I think it would take me a while to figure all that out and I’m pressed for time. I may have to live with the blip on the screen. I tried removing all the custom CSS and noticed that it was still there. Maybe it was there beforehand and I didn’t notice? And has something to do with my background image plugin? I am not sure…BBeckw26:
I would love to find that decimal and change it to a comma but have no idea where to look for it! I tried adding the correct version to my custom css but that didn’t help. There is no makeitso file that I could find through my file manager — there is a wp content folder, wp admin, and more, and they each have many files, but again I don’t know where to begin looking. And should I look via my file manager or through the theme interface?Thanks again for the help!

In reply to: Help me solve a bizarre graphics problem in my header!!!Thanks for help. And even more for the compliment! I’m just working out these last kinks so the page can go live.
The code worked to get the graphic glitch out of the left A. (I changed to percentages from 40-60 to 45-55 to get the right A visible). But the weird spot is still there to the left of the A (or underneath it if I view the page on my phone. So I guess the code you gave me moved the site title over a bit, but the pixel spot is still there.
It’s a slight thing and I’ll live with it if need be, but do you have any idea what’s causing it? It wasn’t there in the beginning before I started this.
Thanks again!

In reply to: Help me solve a bizarre graphics problem in my header!!!I added that but nothing changed unfortunately.
I don’t know if this affects things, but I also have this in my css
.home #main {
background: transparent;and am using a Fullscreen Background image plugin
But I was using that and had the transparent background before I added the other css modifications and I didn’t have the graphic issue then.
Anything else I should try?
Thanks for the help!

In reply to: Help creating a header menu — wisdom needed [Theme: Tempera}Well I was able to undo what I did via file manager, but couldn’t edit my last post to delete it. But the site is back up. I guess pasting the header.php text into the functions.php file of the child theme was the wrong step. How do I do that?
Thanks

In reply to: Help creating a header menu — wisdom needed [Theme: Tempera}Uh oh…. I seem to have done something critically wrong and lost access to everything just now. I was trying to follow your instructions and copied everything from the Tempera header.php file I went to the function.php section of my child theme and pasted it in as text, then saved.
Now everything is gone! I go to the website and nothing comes up. I go to wp admin and it is all gone also, nothing loads at all. What did I do and how to get it all back?
Trying not to panic 🙂

In reply to: Help creating a header menu — wisdom needed [Theme: Tempera}Hi again Marcellas,
Thanks for the reply about moving the social icons. I’ve been working on other things too but will try it out soon.
I have a question about the header that you helped me with earlier though. After tweaking the font size and the percentages in the code you gave me, I got the header to line up pretty well with the primary menu. But, for some reason, there is I strange pixel issue on the A of Astralingua in the site title. It shows up in both safari and chrome in the A. If I look at the site on my iphone, the pixel is below the A, but still there in a strange discoloration. I don’t understand what it is, but anything I tweak in the code to eliminate it messes up the alignment I achieved.
This is the site again – http://www.astralingua.com/makeitso
And this is the code I added:
#branding {
width: 40%;
}
#access {
float:right;
width: 60%;
}
#site-title span a {
font-size: 60px;
}
#site-title {
line-height: 0;
}
#access > .menu > ul > li > a > span {
border-left: 1px solid;
border-right: 0 none;
box-shadow: -1px 0 0;
font-size: 14px;
}
#header, #main, #topbar-inner {
max-width: 1246px;
}I hope that all makes sense! It’s a little thing but I imagine it is an easy fix, I just don’t know where to begin. I’ll try your suggestion on the social icons next and let you know if it works.
Thanks again,

In reply to: how to change the URL of WP siteWow I think I may have actually succeeded. I can’t claim to have understood all of your advice leejosepho, but in the end I’ve got something that works.
I followed the instructions on this page, armed with your advice:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_DirectoryFor now I am using an index.html page on my root directory, and when I am ready to go live I will delete that and change the general settings url address in my wpadmin, and I think it will work. Or at least won’t take me another week to figure out.
Thanks again!

In reply to: how to change the URL of WP siteI am in the midst of trying to redirect to the subdirectory. I thought I had it all figured out but still have a few glitches :/
Thanks for your help thus farForum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: how to change the URL of WP site1. No I don’t have a need to keep the old site, right now I just have a “coming soon” page at my index page for people to land at. The old site files I don’t need at tall.
2. I’m not sure what .htaccess is. If I go to my file manager in Hostmonster, in the public_html folder there is a file with the title .htaccess
3. I don’t care about the subdomain at all.
If I move everything now from http://www.astralingua.com/makeitso to http://www.astralingua.com, can I still have a landing page that says “coming soon” by having an index page? And then, when the final touches are finished, delete the index page so that http://www.astralingua.com goes straight to the home page? Is that what an index page does?
Thanks
