I switched to Data Tables Generator by Supsystic. Works fantastically and has more options. I recommend just switching like I did especially since there does not seem to be a response to solve the issue.

I just installed the plugin and I am having the same issue. (I never saw any other fonts though)
Just to make sure, did you enable the setting ”Combine identical footnotes:” in the setting -> footnotes styling?
I am now noticing that When I add more tables, they are numbered:
1,2,3,4 (table 3 is the non functioning table) and then it jumps to 7,8 and 9. Table 3 is not the only one with issues. The other tables all have the same problem when I try to change the content.
