I deactivated all plugins again. No need for any FTP luckily.
I was able to determine the plugin that was stopping me from doing all the things I mentioned.

I have tried switching to the twenty fourteen theme but nothing changed.With regard to the other two: I am not confident in doing there changes such as controlling FTP, etc. I am afraid that I will make some alteration which has a negative impact on the rest.
How can I get this sorted out?

The problem was that as soon as I sett he nameservers, the entire content of the site has dissappeared and been replaced by the standard startup content of WordPress. Have I now lost all my content or can I use the same method that has been described here?
