In reply to: [Longer Permalinks] Permalink length reduce to 200 after wp update 5.5.1Hello @rashid8,
thank you very much for your kind words.Plugin is tested on 5.5.1 and works without problems.
When you are updating the plugin should detect this update and the “reset” that is happening on the length of field post_name of wp_posts table, and do the right thing (restores 3000 length and restore all the long slugs for you after the update automatically).
* Do you get any error messages in wp-admin when you do the update?
* Can you have a look at your error log and see if there are any errors there?
* Was our plugin active when you tried the upgrade?Waiting your feedback on this one.
As of the workaround you mention (to go on each post one by one and edit post slug) this should be not needed, since the plugin takes care of this when detecting the WP upgrade.
As a sidenote on your workaround: you can find other WP plugins that take care to regenerate all slugs automatically (just to avoid editing all posts one-by-one) that would have helped you on this task. But I repeat normally you should not loose your long slugs because of the update.Thank you.

In reply to: [Longer Permalinks] Try longer permalink plugin with the version 5.5Hi @yousrialgharawy,
I have managed to replicate the behavior you describe on posts duplication.
Technically this is happening because of some extra hardcoded 200 chars limitations in WordPress core. Actually this is from function wp_unique_post_slug() defined in wp-includes/post.php file, where in case of a duplicate title WP tries to generate a unique title there and has again 200 chars limitations hardcoded in the source code.
I have a possible idea/solution on how to also overcome this one, but it is not an easy one to apply, so it goes first in the feature requests now for a future release.
By the way plugin is tested on latest WP version as of today and works without any problems in our installations.
Thank you.

In reply to: [Longer Permalinks] Try longer permalink plugin with the version 5.5Thank you.
If you edit the duplicate post and manually change the Permalink “URL Slug” to a really long one, does it work as you expect it to?Best regards.

In reply to: [Longer Permalinks] Try longer permalink plugin with the version 5.5Hi again,
what you describe here is like the longer permalinks are not activated.
Is this happening to you on a 5.5 brand new installation? Or after updating from 5.4?Thank you.

In reply to: [Longer Permalinks] Try longer permalink plugin with the version 5.5Hello @yousrialgharawy,
it is planned to test the plugin in the new WordPress 5.5 version as we do with all new versions in the next days/weeks.
Are you experiencing any specific problem you would like to report here?
Is there any error you are getting on 5.5 or any unexpected behavior to report?Thank you.
Hello @yousrialgharawy,
you wrote in a support thread opened by some other user for a specific problem.
If you are experiencing a similar problem (or any problem), please open a new support request instead.Thank you.
Dear @kutalia,
can you please try the latest version released today (ver 1.22), it should be OK now with the length of the lock name?
Is it OK now?Thank you.
Hello,
thank you for your detailed message.Indeed it is as you say: The 64 chars limit on lock names.
Actually other MySQL versions (even 5.6) allows more than 64 characters on lock names. This is very easy to fix on our side (we will make the lock name shorter).
We will release a new version of the plugin with the fix the soonest possible.
Thank you very much again.

In reply to: [Longer Permalinks] broken links when deactiveted the pluginHello,
You can find many snippets or ready plugins that will only renegerate all your slugs from existing titles, but I repeat this means that you will loose all your long URLs of course. Here is one plugin for example https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-regenerate-slug/. I am sure you can find a lot similar to your liking to do the job.
Thank you.

In reply to: [Longer Permalinks] broken links when deactiveted the pluginHello @elmaazon,
if you deactivate the plugin, it is normal to have not working long permalinks.
The plugin gives you the ability to have long permanlinks (much more characters in your URLs compared to what WordPress allows by default). If you remove the plugin all your long permalinks will not work, since the required functionality is not in place any more. All URLs that are not long should be working fine. You can try this actually. Create a post with a small slug of only some latin characters for example, this must be working. The same is true for old short URLs.
In order to have your links working without the plugin you must have much sorter URLs. For example after disabling the plugin, edit one post and regenerate it’s slug. It will become much smaller and will work. You can also use some solution to make all your slugs sort at once (I am sure you can find many plugins that will generate slugs again, in order to have the sort ones).
Thank you.

In reply to: [Longer Permalinks] Huge postmeta DB tableHi @elmaazon thank you for using the support forum.
If you have created longer links that than WordPress default allowance by using the plugin, after you deactivated/uninstalled the plugin all your long URLs is expected to stop working. All links that have less characters that the default WordPress limitation should be working. The long URLs will not. This is normal. Please open a new thread for more, since this thread here is not related to that.
Thank you.

In reply to: [Longer Permalinks] Huge postmeta DB tableHi @alihoseiny,
please try to go to version 1.20 and then to do the upgrade to 1.21.
The upgrade to 1.21 is deleting all those values in postmeta table and generates them again, so it is possible this is normal. If you still have the problem you can follow the plugin author’s link to contact us in order to investigate specifically your case and follow up here at the end.
Thank you.

In reply to: [Longer Permalinks] Huge postmeta DB tableDear @alihoseiny,
so you did the update to the latest version right?
About how many posts does your website have?
And how many rows do you have in postmeta table with value “longer-permalinks-post-name-longer”?Thank you.

In reply to: [Longer Permalinks] Huge postmeta DB tableDear @develekos @alihoseiny,
the last update (v1.21) should successfully handle the problem you reported and also automatically remove any redundant postmeta records.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for anything you might need.
