By commercial plugin if you mean premium, i’d recommend FileBird. The free version limits to 10 folders so i paid 25 bucks for unlimited use. And thats the best deal i can find.
The same issue sent me here. Temporarily switching off really helps, otherwise the featured img turns grayish.
