In reply to: how to post an image?I’m sorry I didn’t ignore him or her; I saw the newest post first, and did reply. Hopefully, s/he won’t ask again.

In reply to: how to post a picture…Sure…they just have to use the image button in the HTML tools above the posting form, or manually put in the image HTML code. They just use the link to the image; you can have it on your server or another site.

In reply to: How Do I Accomplish This?Someone suggested that to me before, but I could have sworn I saw something that said it uses Amazon. I’m not seeing that now. It might work. I’ll contact the person who made the plugin to ask some questions I have. Thanks!
Other suggestions welcome as well.

In reply to: Site not working properlyI’m not an expert by any stretch, but I’d try changing the single quotes in this:
<link rel='archives' title='June 2006' href='http://www.danielleesale.net/linkblog/2006/06/' />to use double quotes.

In reply to: Show first portion of post (not the_excerpt)I’m not sure if these include images or not, but try either the_excerpt Reloaded or Post Teaser (both located at http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Posts_Formatting).

In reply to: How To? Book DatabaseOk, that’s not what I want. I don’t want a program that searches or uses Amazon. I want a program that lets individual users type in their own information, including a cover image, and the program puts the information into a post, retaining the information in the database, and one can search by any field (title, author, etc.). I want to be able to add or delete any and as many fields as I like.
Ideally, I’d be able to easily modify this program for other uses, too. Like, if I wanted to list DVDs instead, or collect information on anything. Basically, I want to be able to create a form that includes any fields I want, have it put all that info into the database upon submission (I also want to be able to approve submissions), be able to sort and search by any field, and have the information placed in a post in a particular format/order.
Does anyone know of a plugin–or even another program altogether–that does this? I prefer PHP, but will consider other programs. Thank you.

In reply to: How To? Book DatabaseHmmm…it might work. I’ll have to look at in in further depth to be sure; I use CG-Amazon to post what I’m reading and wishlist stuff, but this could be useful. Thank you.
If anyone has other suggestions, though, please let me know. Thank you.
See Moving WordPress. 🙂

In reply to: Issue with <br> in PostsAre you using align=left (or right) as an attribute in HTML? It might be clashing with CSS settings, if it’s not working.

In reply to: Issue with <br> in PostsI was actually thinking that, too, but I was thinking WP would automatically do that for him, until I remembered there’s a box to check in Options that will fix XHTML, so he might not have that checked.

In reply to: Blog HackedI agree, 24-hour phone support is good. I don’t have that with my current host, but I can prefer email; I have to submit a ticket, but I can do it anytime. That said, I sometimes get fairly quick answers, and sometimes I don’t. In fact, I’m waiting right now to find out why my email has been down for over four days.
I really like how my host has domains set up to work, and I like their control panel. I like cPanel, but I like my current setup much better. I also had a better setup with a previous host, but that host was much more expensive, and you had to email the host for almost everything you want to do–setting up subdomains, new email accounts, etc. That host has said for years they were going to get a better control panel so users can do that stuff, but they still haven’t. I don’t like setting up domains like maindomain.com/additionaldomain1.com and maindomain.com/additionaldomain2.com, etc., where everything is a subdomain of the main domain. So, I’m staying with my current host for a while, to see how it goes. I like a lot of things about them; but I also don’t like a lot of things about them.

In reply to: Sidebar text on main page no longer formatted correctly. It might work better if you fix the errors in validation. See http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.screenwritinglife.com.%2F. It’s a pain, but once you get things corrected, you’ll have fewer problems, I’d guess. 🙂

In reply to: Blog HackedI admit I don’t know what the majority of hosts do, but I’ve been with several, and I’ve never had any of them charge me for a backup.
I will suggest, though, that you do periodic backups of your database yourself (saved on your own computer), so you always have at least one copy. You should also make sure you have a copy of all your WP files (including the .htaccess file after it’s been edited by plugins and whatnot). I suggest keeping a copy of the original files (before any configuring or editing) in a .zip file, so you always have a copy of the originals. Even if you install from a Fantastico or other quick installer, just download the WP files from WordPress.org, so you have them on hand.
Besides downloading the database, you might want to keep a text- or php-file copy of each of your posts, just so you also have copies that way. That’s optional, but I like to do it. It also lets me read a post (or page; I do it for pages, too) without going online, should I want to do a quick check for some reason.
I really wish you the best of luck. That’s ridiculous, that you had to pay for a backup.
