I didn’t get any white screens of death on normal blog pages), but the project export gave a white screen, with no output. I am using WP 3.1.

Never mind – I was able to figure it out. Essentially, just changing the header.php in themes\under-the-influence does the trick.
The only change that is required is in the “extra links” related code, where it has “echo li” etc, just remove the target = blank from there.
