<li>tags rather than<h2>tags.Regarding the favicon issue, what format and size did you use?

Can you go to Customizer > General and check if there’s an option to set the grid structure to Floats or Flexbox?
If that option is available, it means the site is using old templates that don’t have the menu_bar_items hook. Changing the structure to Flexbox should make the snippet for adding the Login button work.
However, make sure to take a backup of your site before making this change, as it’s not reversible. Although it’s rare for anything to break after switching, it’s always better to be cautious.
