yes it’s true, but what you need is to hack wordpress, i mean the page that show the notice : please check your email to get your password.
you can either remove it o replace it with another notice like :”
please don’t remind about the password sent to you , but keep in mind the one you have chosen”
another solution hich is not the best is to hack the core of wordpress not to send email confirmation when registring, but i don’t recommend you cause you have to do this each time you upgrade, or cancel the hack when you decide to give up this plugin.

don’t ask how cause i haven’t tried to hack anything.

with this plugin you can do it.. it’s called Cimy User Extra Fields

as well you can add other extra field like pictuer, signature etc..
