In reply to: Categories not showing up in dashboardThat line doesn’t show up in the header.php file of any of my themes. That seems odd, right?

In reply to: Categories not showing up in dashboardI’ll give it a try, thank you. It either just happened on it’s own or after I updated the last time and I just didn’t notice.

In reply to: Categories not showing up in dashboardYes, also old categories are not showing up there which is the more pressing issue. Also if I try to add new posts or edit old posts, the list of categories is blank.

In reply to: Categories not showing up in dashboardNo categories are showing up in the dashboard. The parent dropdown also says “none”. However it says 3 categories exist if you look at the screenshot. http://i.imgur.com/Am1YP.jpg

In reply to: Moving from /blog to root – how do I keep my old urls?I know about the image links, it’s just anything database related that is confusing me. Hmm, okay. Thank you for the help! I wish the instructions were written more clearly for beginners, but I get the feeling that this is not really a place for beginners.
Thank you for taking the time to explain it to me anyway!

In reply to: Moving from /blog to root – how do I keep my old urls?Thank you Esmi. If I don’t care about my current content will I run into problems just deleting my current wordpress files from the /blog directory and reinstalling wordpress in the root directory without doing anything to the database?
Why would I need a fresh database to import the old entries? I am getting the feeling that this support community caters to a more educated user but I would be very thankful for any guidance you can provide. Thank you for your help.

In reply to: Moving from /blog to root – how do I keep my old urls? Why, is it not possible to export my posts through the tools menu and then import them again later?

In reply to: Moving from /blog to root – how do I keep my old urls?I’m not asking for a step by step, I’m asking a specific question.
Also you can export and import entries through wordpress under the tools menu so I don’t understand what you’re saying there.

In reply to: Moving from /blog to root – how do I keep my old urls?I think I see a way to keep my blog entries showing up at blog/entry-name using /blog/wp-admin/options-permalink.php under the optional base categories field.
If someone can just answer my second question that would be great. Do I need to mess around with my database? Can I just delete my current wordpress files and install the latest version in the root directory?
