I have called my two “court” IT-crew collegues; both confirmed the issue exists.
I have fixed the problem for myself, but it would be belting if this conversation helped others too.

Aye, I have fixed my page with additional CSS code (viz the original post). Without it the overflow is there.
This particular screenshot is from Chrome, but the same happens in Firefox.
