It is definitely possible to get a zoomed in map when clicking a store. You have to pay attention to the setting “Initial zoom level”, maybe it is a very low number in your case (i.e., initial zoom level 3 shows all the United States in the map).
Setting this value to a higher number, like for instance 7, in combination with checking the checkbox “Auto adjust the zoom level to make sure all markers are visible?” gets good results in my experience, because on first load, the map is zoomed enough so that all of your stores are visibles, but on the other hand clicking an individual store takes you to a more zoomed in map that the one you are seeing now.
