Zerif Lite child page/update problems

I just made a child page out of my parent theme Zerif Lite and at the same time I updated the parent theme(so I’m not sure which caused the problem), and something seems to gone weird.
Now when I want to see the static page as a front page, I need to mark the last blog post as a front page. This is easy to go with, but I was wondering will it cause so problems later and how should I fix this?
Other thing is that I can’t put picture anymore to the upper part (where in the demo there is the city picture). Before it seem to work so that I put the picture to the background section, and it went up behind the two buttons (the ones I can determine in Big Title section). Now the picture goes only under the sections and not at all to the upper part. So also the buttons are invisible.
