Yet another permalinks problem.

Hey, I posted here before but didn’t get much response, thought I’d try again as I’m still having the issue. To be a bit more detailed, my .htaccess is correct, if the automatically generated .htaccess is correct, I haven’t modified it at all.

I’m running Ubuntu SE 14.04 LTS, and I have the latest LAMP stack installed.

I set permissions for .htaccess and wp-content to 777 temporariy without a solution. The users are all www-data, and I’ve changed these all to be owned by root as well, with still no change.

Other changes that I’ve attempted but since reverted have been to add AllowOverride allbut again, I got a 404 Error. Also, when I try to upload anything it DOES ask for FTP access, so maybe this is an indication that my permissions are indeed incorrect, but I don’t think so.

I have no idea what else I can do to fix this, I’m fairly new to Linux and WP, but I think I have enough of an understanding to follow any direction given here. Thanks in advance for any help, and sorry for the wall of text.
