Hello, I have a question regarding the XML feed and the compatibility of product categories between WooCommerce and Google.

We use the Plugin CTX Feed in WordPress to create XML-feeds for the Google Merchant Center. In this feed, multiple WordPress product categories are included under the g:product_type-field for each product item, in the following format:

    <g:product_type>Ready-to-Grow Gärten > Balkongärten > Topfgärten > Blumengärten > Rot > Gelb > Violett > Weiß > Rosa > Juni > Juli > August > September > Leichter Duft > Bauerngarten > Bunt > Natürlich > Sonne - Halbschatten > 30 - 60 cm > Laubabwerfend > Einjährig > Mehrjährig > Gering > Bedingt winterhart > Nicht winterhart > Bio > Insektenfreundlich > Kinderfreundlich > Ohne Stacheln</g:product_type>

The g:google_product_category Tag looks like that and in Google Ads, only the first variable of the product type can be selected.

    <g:google_product_category>Ready-to-Grow Gärten</g:google_product_category>

Is it possible that Google can’t interpret this value because this category doesn’t exist in their system? How can product tags for the Google product category be included in the XML so that they are compatible with the Google Merchant Center/Google Ads?

Thanks in Advance for your help.

    Dear @hellojan26

Thank you for reaching out to us.

In a product feed, you can add both the Product Type and Google Product Category attributes.

The Product Type attribute is used to include your store categories, which can help you segment and organize your products more effectively in Google Ads.

To provide Google with the correct product classification, you should use the Google Product Category attribute. This attribute requires a category code that is officially recognized by Google.

You can see how to add the Google Product Category attribute to your feed here:
    https://prnt.sc/ZVi-47ol3tYB

In the example, we used a single static category code for all products in the feed. However, you can also map your store categories to Google categories by using the Category Mapping feature available in our plugin.

You can find detailed instructions on how to map your store categories with Google categories and use that mapping as the value for the Google Product Category attribute here:
    https://webappick.com/docs/ctx-feed/configuration/how-to-map-store-category-with-merchant-category/

You may also find this video tutorial helpful:

I hope the above information helps you correctly map your store categories to the appropriate Google categories and add them to your feed successfully.

Please feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions or need assistance with category mapping.

    Hello @mansary

Thanks, the video was helpful, but there’s just one problem:

I can not use the new mapping in the XML-Feed for the Google Product Category after creating a new mapping. The new attribute is not available in the drop down menue.

    Can you help out?

    Hi @hellojan26

It’s caching. Please go to CTX Feed > Make feed > Clear the cache here – https://prnt.sc/pjjolRJm0qDC

Once the cache is cleared you should get the category mapping added to the attribute list.

    Thank you,
