WSOD after posting first comment

    Hi,

    TL;DR: the first comment I posted worked, avery other one after that gives WSOD.

    So what happened:

    I activated the comments for every post on my site. After that I tried to comment while logged in as admin and that worked fine. Then when I wanted to see if the notifications arrived at the correct emailaddress I made a second comment, but that just gave me WSOD.

    Then I updated to 4.5 and I could post 1 comment as admin, after that, same story as above: every time I try to post a comment: WSOD.

    I have tried to disable all plugins, set the default theme, cleared the cache, increased the memory, checked the provider. None of this worked. Below is the debug.log:

    Sounds like a plugin or theme function is out of date.

    Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Sixteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    I already tried that and the problem persists. What baffles me the most, is the fact that I did manage to post a comment, but only once…

    The problem persisted under the Twenty Sixteen theme with all plugins deactivate? Very odd.

    Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

    Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Hi James,

    I downloaded WordPress again and when I unzipped the package I noticed the wp-comments-post.php file and tried to just replace file first, before replacing everything else.

    And this actually fixed the problem!

    So thanks for the ideas, if it wasn’t for your suggestion, I never would’ve thought of doing this 😉
