Wrong stats
-
Since updating to the new version, the visit statistics have been behaving strangely. Here is a link to a screen capture today, it shows zero visitors came today while yesterday was around 185.
Are these numbers updated at the end of the day when the counting is closed? And in the overall view, the last two day visits are shown as zero:

Hi @acekin26 acekin26,
Thanks for the report and the screenshots.
Quick answer to your question: SlimStat tracks visits in real-time, so today’s count starts at zero at midnight and builds up as visitors arrive. There’s no end-of-day “close” — what you see is always live.
The “last two days showing zero” in the overall view is a chart display bug we identified and fixed. It was affecting the way recent visits get grouped in the chart, making the most recent day or two appear as zero even though the data is correctly recorded in your database.
Your visit history is safe — nothing is lost.
The fix is included in version 5.4.4, which is now available.
Please update SlimStat Analytics to 5.4.4 from your WordPress dashboard and the chart should display correctly.
Let us know if you run into anything else!Thank you for your quick fixes and quick and honest replies. I have just updated the plugin and wait for it to start counting. Keep up the good work!
Well, I still have zero visitors on SlimStat. Take a look at the most recent screen capture as of 12:20 PM:
Is the problem still going on? I have been seeing zero visitors since I first reported this problem. I am providing another link to a new screen capture this morning and would like to know if I am the only one experiencing this issue.
Thank you.
Hi @acekin26 ,
Sorry for the delay — I’ve dug much deeper this time. Zero visitors across all views means this isn’t a chart display issue; tracking itself is being blocked.
First step: please update SlimStat to version 5.4.5 from your WordPress dashboard. This release includes several fixes for consent handling on cached pages and nonce issues with anonymous visitors.
If tracking is still at zero after updating to 5.4.5, the cause is most likely the GDPR consent gate. Recent versions require visitors to accept a consent banner before tracking starts. If you upgraded from an older version, your settings still have “Set Tracking Cookie” enabled, which SlimStat now treats as collecting personal data — so it waits for consent first. If your site uses a caching plugin, the banner may not even appear on cached pages.
In that case, try one of these:
- If you don’t need EU/GDPR compliance: Go to SlimStat > Settings > Tracker > Consent Management and turn “GDPR Compliance Mode” off. Tracking resumes immediately for all visitors.
- If you want GDPR-safe tracking without the consent banner: Go to SlimStat > Settings > Tracker > Data Protection and turn “Set Tracking Cookie” off, then make sure “Anonymize IP Addresses” or “Hash IP Addresses” is on. This removes personal data collection, so tracking works without requiring consent.
- If you want to keep the consent banner: Clear your page cache so the banner appears on fresh pages. Note that only visitors who click “Accept” will be tracked, so your numbers will be lower than before.
Could you also let me know which version of SlimStat you were on before updating? That’ll help me confirm the exact cause.
Thank you. I have been updating all my plugins as new releases came out. Now, I have the latest release of SlimStat; before I had 5.4.4. I have also disabled the GDPR option. We’ll see how it goes. I will report again. I have also cleared all cached content.

OK, it seems to be “counting” but I am not sure what. The top URL visited is:
/wp-json/slimstat/v1/hit
There are a few more below, as shown in the screen capture. I have no idea how to interpret that URL I pasted above. This is a bit discouraging. How does a properly functioning software become a puzzle?
Hi @acekin26 ,
We completely understand the frustration, and we want you to know this is on our radar. We’re actively working on a fix — this isn’t something we’re putting on the back-burner. We’ll have an update out as soon as we can.
Thanks for bearing with us, and please don’t hesitate to follow up if you need anything in the meantime.
Thank you. I will wait.
Hi @acekin26 ,
Thank you for your patience through all of this — and for sticking with us while we tracked down the root cause.
We just released version 5.4.6, and it fixes exactly what you’ve been experiencing. The short version: upgrading to 5.4.x silently enabled a consent banner and changed IP storage defaults, which broke tracking for many sites. Your visitor counts dropped to zero because anonymous visitors were being blocked by a consent gate you never turned on. The internal URLs showing up in your Access Log (/wp-json/slimstat/v1/hit) are also filtered out now.
After updating to 5.4.6, your site works the way it did before 5.4.0 — no manual steps required.
One thing: if you’re using a caching plugin, please clear your cache after updating so the new tracker script loads on all pages. Then visit a few pages on your site and check the Access Log — you should see fresh data coming in.
If anything still looks off, we’re right here.
Thank you. But, I decided not to use any statistics plugins and removed SlimStat as well. All the records are gone. I don’t do anything with the statistics and this will eliminate a little load from the site and from my mind. I am sure the existing users will appreciate the update.
Completely understand — and no hard feelings at all. Sometimes the simplest solution is the right one.
Your reports over the past week directly led to three releases that fixed real problems for everyone still using the plugin. That’s a genuine contribution, and we appreciate it.
If you ever want to give it another go down the road, we’ll be here. Wishing you and keptlight.com all the best.
Thank you for your good wishes. I report all the problems to all the developers, but some do not like them!! In any case, I enjoyed SlimStat Analytics.
Best,
Cemal
