WPMU Membership Plugin

I am using the WPMU Membership Plugin to create a few subscriptions options for my site. I create the subscriptions easily but, even though certain plans offer certain bonuses, when I create the account via the subscription plan, the plugin updates the user under a plan but, the WordPress Membership keeps all users logged as a “Subscriber” even though, I put the plan as a “Contributor” for those paying for a plan. I need to find out how to actually use the subscription plans for the site and the WPMU Devs are being no help at all. Please respond.
