You really should not be modifying theme files – all of your changes will be lost when the theme is updated. Instead use a child theme or custom CSS plugin to make CSS changes.
Since your theme is not available here:

I don’t know what it’s supposed to look like or what’s not working right. These forums generally only offer theme-specific support for themes from here. Have you asked the developer of the theme for help with this?
Also, these are volunteer forums, so bumping this thread after only 40 minutes really isn’t so cool… http://codex.wordpress.org/Forum_Welcome#No_Bumping

Hi, im new on wp themes, and im trying to figure out how to use it.
im currently using this theme, http://www.dessign.net/simplephototheme
overall i like this theme, but there are a few things id like to change.
is it recomended to install this theme, and start changing the code, to make it look the way i want?
is this the way it works?
someone told me i shoudnt do it, because when they release an update, i will loose all the changes ive done.
so, whats the correct way to use a theme?
1 – pick one, and change whatever is necessary to make it look the way i need.
2 – pick one, and accept that it is not 100% the way id like it to be?
tks
If you want to change a theme, you can use a Child Theme to make changes – see the link I posted above for how to make a child theme.
Do note that not all themes will work with child themes.
Also, these forums support themes from here:
http://wordpress.org/themes/
So if you use a theme from someplace else, you may want to make sure that the developer provides support for theme-specific questions.
