• Looking for a new host and comparing WP Engine and SiteGround. For my last host, shared hosting wasn’t good enough (exceed memory limits and was shut down), so I had to upgrade to VPS.

I just learned that WP Engine is a form of shared hosting, although they claim to manage server resources better than traditional shared hosts. I thought I needed VPS (memory use is 800 mb and growing), but WP Engine seems like a premium service. Any advice on whether their shared hosting might be as good as VPS hosting?

For SiteGround, I would get the (very expensive) VPS Cloud 1 Plan with WordPress Booster. Also considering Flywheel (cheapest option) who say they are VPS (and WP optimized).

    Thanks!

  • We used to have SiteGround, switched to Canadian Web Hosting (don’t remember why but safe to assume because it was cheaper). It has been pretty solid for years of use: [ redacted ] If nothing else look at them for a price comparison.

Have never heard of WP Engine, but from the title it sounds like they are hoping to snag those people who don’t know any better.

Although we do not personally endorse them, there are some hosts listed here. Also searching the forums using the keywords “host” or “hosting” may provide you with some suggestions. However, due to the amount of spam that these topics attract, I’m afraid I will have to close this one.
