wp-admin doesnt display categories

my current issues is that wp-admin will not show my categories. the correct number does show on the dashboard, and if I got directly to the MySQL database using phpMyAdmin I can see that they still exists on ‘wp_terms’, but for some reason they won’t show up on the categories section on wp-admin. not even when I create or edit a post. all my posts that had categories assigned to them now show “uncategorized”

does any one know what may be happening? or has this happened to any one else?
