    I have an interesting problem.

My website wp-admin can be accessed on any browser and even chrome-incognito!

BUT! On the normal regular old chrome browser, trying to get to wp-admin or any admin url leads me to a 500 Internal Server Error.

I have tried everything from increasing memory / replacing wp-admin and wp-includes / creating a new .htaccess / and disabling themes and plugins … nothing seems to fix the problem.

Why would wp-admin give this error only on the standard Chrome Browser?
Chrome is where I do all my work so I’d really like this fixed.

Thanks for any and all suggestions / advice.

I have just found a twist in the puzzle! For kicks, I tried to log in using Chrome on my PC instead of my Mac, it seems that I can log in just fine .. So it’s a Chrome issue I think (or an issue linked to my chrome on my mac?) – What could it be? I’ve cleared my cache and this still happens. Suggestions?

  • What happens when you use http://www.yoursite.com/wp-login.php?

I see a non css or non stylized log in screen, when I enter all my info and hit the button, I get the same 500 error.

Do you get anything on the error log? Meaning the server log?

Actually, I’m not sure how to go about doing that. I am on a hosted service called ipage.

Can i get the logs myself?

    Thanks

What’s the site URL? I’ll look and see if it does the same thing for me in Chrome.

    Sure,
    blog.kenguie.com

That is the weird part, it seems to work ok on chrome on any other computer 😮

I’ve tested it on my wife’s computer now as well as my 2 computers.

The mac’s chrome is the only one with an issue.

    I bet you’ll be ok

Look in the WordPress root for error_log.

no error log that i can see. searched through all the folders as well

    did you see anything strange?

You’re absolutely correct. Looks good from here. It must be something specific to that version of Chrome on that particular MAC.

Thanks for the help guys, I’m going to reinstall my chrome and see if that helps out.

It’s a server side error so if WordPress is not recording it then contact the host. Obviously, it’s something wrong with the mac and chrome arrangement but maybe the server error log will give you some kind of hint.

Thanks, I used to work at a hosting company so I’m not fond of the idea of calling to ask for logs ha ha but I’m hoping it’s just some chrome issue. On my pc I’ve had to reinstall chrome a few times a year to get rid of bugs. This will be the first time on a mac.

So, just an update, it was something corrupt in chrome.

I reinstalled it on the mac and everything works fine again.

Thanks for your time guys. Hopefully this will help someone in the future!

I’m glad you got it working!
