• I just updated to WordPress 4.7 and tried the Custom CSS editor (I’m using the Genesis theme with Outreach child theme). The editor worked great in Custom Preview mode and appeared to save when I clicked ‘Save and Publish’. However, none of the CSS edits remained when I returned to the page or refreshed.

I eventually discovered that if I deactivate Wordfence (6.2.7), the Custom CSS edits would save properly. I’m not sure if I’m missing a setting that needs to be adjusted in Wordfence or if the Wordfence plugin needs an update to address this. My current workaround is to deactivate Wordfence while I make edits, then I turn it back on when done.

  • Hi Jim.

Try putting the firewall into learning mode, performing the function again a few times, and the re-enabling the firewall. Learning mode allows the firewall to learn what actions are expected and safe.

    Thanks!

    Hi Jim,

If temporarily using Learning Mode on the Firewall page has helped, can you let us know? Alternately, you can try the “Manually Refresh Firewall Rules” button near the bottom of the Diagnostics page on the Wordfence menu.

If you still aren’t able to save CSS when the firewall is set to “Enabled and Protecting”, check the error logs for the site. It’s possible another issue had stopped the added CSS from saving correctly.
