WP 1.5 – comments not working

I recently launched my first blog and the comments are not working. (WordPress 1.5)

Everything else is working great, but if you click to “comment” on a post, nothing happens. You should get a field to place you comment in, right?

I am new to blogging, so forgive me if there is an obvious solution. I checked in the admin panel and it says that there is no “.htaccess”. Is that the issue? Where can I find this file on the server? I am using shared hosting with Media Temple.
