• My apologies if this is posted in the wrong section.

I got this ERROR today logging into WordPress – “You’ve been blocked. If you think a mistake has been made, contact this site’s administrator.” So I was forced to create this account to communicate with you, just weird.

Could someone explain to me why I am blocked from logging into WordPress.org on my “pcfitness” account?

    Thank you!

  • Most likely cause is security software.
It’s designed to lock out users who exhibit suspicious behaviour
Find it in plugins directory (through cPanel) and rename it by adding _bak to directory name

Are you saying I should look through the directories of each security plugin? What am I looking for exactly?

You’re looking for a security plugin which will sit in the plugins directory to deactivate by renaming it

OK. Sounds simple enough. I’ll keep you posted. Thank you.

I renamed all security plugins. Still blocked. Any other ideas?

Can you clarify what your problem is? In your original post, you said that you were trying to “[log] into WordPress.org on [your] pcfitness account”, but plugins on your site shouldn’t affect that at all. Your site is separate from WP.org, and WP.org doesn’t provide any hosting.

There’s realistically only a few things that can block you out of wp-admin:

    1. Security plugins blocking you
    2. Redirection plugins redirecting unnecessarily
    3. Htaccess file blocking or redirecting
    4. Functions.php trying to hook in and failing
    5. Corrupted wp installation

If renaming all plugins doesn’t work, rename htaccess and then functions.php – if you still get nothing (and error_log tells you nothing) you best try downloading the latest wp version and unpacking over the top of your install.

Here is what happened. I was searching Google for WP plugins etc, found a link that brought me to WordPress.org. That’s when I realized I was not logged in. When I tried to log in I got that error. I hope that clears things up some. Let me know. Thx.

*Looks, sees old account is blocked in the support forums, looks some more. Ah. Drinks coffee.*

It’s not your account on your own installation that has problems. It’s your old account on these support forums that is blocked.

*Gets more coffee, this will need some explaining*

OK without going into actual personal details, you had a review on your old account. Someone did not like your review and replied in depth about community, rainbows and sunshine in leaving productive reviews.

To put it a little mildly, you did not react well and that got your account blocked.

People can and do make mistakes and we all of us have bad days. I can and will unblock your old account if you wish. But I’m also allergic to people having multiple accounts so if you want to use the old one here then please reply here and let me know.

If you do want to use the old forum account then I’ll unblock it. But I will also marked the new account you’ve created as “Inactive” so you won’t have two forum accounts.

Jan, I love your response. 🙂 Yes. I would like to use my old account please. Don’t need 2. Thank you.

OK! Thanks for letting me know. 😉

I’ve marked this account as inactive: antmarweb

    I’ve unblocked this account: pcfitness

If you can’t get into that account then please use the password reset URL to reset the password.

    https://wordpress.org/support/bb-login.php

You can use either that old account name or the email address to reset the password. You’ll get an email and should be in business with the old account.

If you still have a problem getting into that old account then don’t reply here. Instead send the details to forum-password-resets [at] wordpress.org and it will be sorted out there.

    Ah much better! Thx! 🙂
