• hi there

Sub-domain Install Because your install is not new, the sites in your WordPress network must use sub-domains. The main site in a sub-directory install will need to use a modified permalink structure, potentially breaking existing links.

u guys know why it saying that?it doesnt let me choice between sub-directory en sub-domein it wants me to choice directly to sub-domein while i want a sub-directory.this happens when i put the script like in the http://codex.wordpress.org/Tools_Network_SubPanel says
    cheers piero

You can change it. Once you install it with subdomains, do two things.

    1) Edit the wp-config.php file and look for the line with subdomain_install in it. Change that to false.
    2) Edit your .htaccess to be the subfolder one, NOT the subdomain one. See http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

    Done 🙂

(It does that because a lot of people would read that, do it anyway, and screw themselves up. You can still do it, but you have to show some savvy to do it, thus preventing the novices from being silly.)

If you read the message, you’d know that: Because your install is not new.

    From http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

You cannot choose Sub-directory Install in the following cases:

If your existing WordPress installation has been set up for more than a month, due to issues with existing permalinks. (This problem will be fixed in a future version.)

mmm so i cant do it manuely?:p
well ok then ill wait till the future version

It;s not on the road map for 3.1 so might as well change it manually.

No, you CAN do it manually.

You cannot chose Sub-Directory on install. You must change it AFTER you’ve finished installation (and preferably before you start adding children blogs).
