Do you have a link to your website so we can see how long it is taking here.
Also has this only started after you upgraded (I see you say you are using 3.3), have you tried disabling all plugins using FTP / or via the admin CP when it finally loads ?
Then, how long has this slowness been happening ?

the side bar is particuarly bad and none of the sub categories load well at all infact it looks like the links are nt working
it has been gradually worse over the last 3 weeks
the site has been virtually at a standstill
we ahve lost 1 client today because of it.
so any help would be appreciated

While your site is actually loading quite fast for me here, have you changed anything from the weeks it has been getting worst ?
Same issue here – The sidebar is VERY slow, and does not load well.
Personally, I think this was not the best move (redesigning the sidebar). While ease of use was taken into account, things such as flyouts, etc. use more resources (therefore while the idea was great, the implementation and result, contributed to an overall decrease in the performance of WordPress).
This has me concerned, as this is the first time ever, that clients have asked me to move them off the WordPress platform. (And I’ve been using WordPress in one manner or another since it was first launched).
I’m equally concerned as the new version 3.3 appears to have a serious negative performance impact (on site and admin speed/response); in particular as I’ve seen numerous (and increasing) complaints about online, this over the last few hours.
What can we do to fix the performance?
See here:
http://www.dev4press.com/2011/blog/benchmark/wordpress-benchmark-3-0-vs-3-1-vs-3-2-vs-3-3/WordPress 3.3 performance is show as substandard – Yikes!
You’ve actually got several image files that are throwing 404 Not Found errors when I load any page on your site… they seem to be coming primarily from the sidebar. It might not be causing all of your problems, but it’s likely contributing:

All I can say is that I have upgraded a number of sites – they are ALL now incredibly slow.
In my opinion there is a serious performance problem here that needs to be sorted out.
The end user will only keep using WordPress if it remains reliable and functions at acceptable speeds.
Something is broken in 3.3.
Example: http://www.rnmedics.com (this was working fine before upgrading to 3.3).
I for one am currently looking to move my sites to an alternative which is really unfortunate.
Cheers,
Mike
