wordpress very slow after importing small wordpress.com blog

I just installed wordpress on my machine (mac) through MAMP and it worked fine: I was able to navigate the admin pages and I could see the welcome page and sample post on my local address. Then I imported my blog from wordpres.com (only about 16 posts total), and wordpress became really slow (kind of crush slow) and it is almost impossible to navigate, although it looks like it imported everything correctly. It seems like the whole Firefox is struggling as well, not just the wordpress tab. I though it was due to the choice of “importing all the attachment” during the importing phase, but that seems to be a common practice. I would appreciate any suggestion on how to solve this issue.
