• I have a domain that I installed WordPress onto some time ago, but never did anything with, and I have now gone back to it to start blogging.

When I tried to install Jetpack, I was told it isn’t compatible with my version of WordPress, and when I checked I found my blog is still running version 4.2.4. When I go to the update screen, it says “Last checked on May 25, 2016 at 8:16 am” and nothing changes when I click the button to check again.

I’ve found the instructions to update manually, and I’m fine with doing that, but I’m more concerned about why my blog isn’t detecting the availability of new updates.

Can anyone explain this? Is there a setting I need to change somewhere? (I don’t recall changing any settings when I originally installed WordPress, but it’s possible I may have done.)

  • It is likely that some files were compromised causing the update functionality to break. Do you have any plugins installed? If so, are you able to update those without problems?

Go ahead and update manually. This might get everything synced up. Right now the update is the most important thing.

I agree with @kmessinger definitely most important to run the updates, I was only asking those questions because I have seen this problem be caused by plugins in the past.
