I had a site that was working perfectly and I lost access to the dashboard so I reinstalled my wordpress application and now I can’t get access to the front end or the dashboard of the site – I currently get Error establishing database connection.

When I go to the file manager all files are there and look correct but unsure why nothing is showing up.

Update – got the site up again but all of my pages are gone, anyway to restore pages. All of my plugins and addons were deactivated and I lost all of my orders for the store.

Update two – I was able to point the current installation to the old SQL database and everything came back.. I think I’m good but definitely didn’t like that learning experience.

You should check your database and find out if the old database tables are still there. If they are, you can change the database prefix in wp-config.php and you should see your old site again.

However, if you reinstalled WordPress from scratch, using the same database table prefix (by default this is wp_) then you probably overwrote all your previous settings.

Thanks Mark – that is what I did to fix it.. Luckily I backed up every few days so I didn’t lose anything.
