In the future, I suggest using a tool like YSlow for Firefox to check on page loading. I took the liberty of running YSlow to see what was going on. Here’s a quick summary:
Performance Score: 65 (D)
To improve performance:
– Combine your 13 background images into an image sprite
– Combine your 3 external style sheets into 1
– Use Expires Headers on your static page elements (so they cache locally)
– Configure ETags
– Move Javascript to the footer rather than the header (defers loading and speeds up the page)

Hi Also on this topic we have had a wordpress website designed but it is also very slow loading, in fact Google says up to 95% SLOWER than similar sites. Having done a check via webmaster tools in Firefox it seems that using the super caching plug-in might be the answer but I do not have enough experience with wordpress to risk installing this and possibly messing the whole website up.
If there is anyone who has the experience to do this and any other optimization needed to speed up loading we are happy to pay for the work. The person who actually did construct the site does not seem to be able to help.
