• hi

my site http://www.theozeffect.org had been working fine until this week.

now the media button allows me to select images in my library, but doesnt install them in posts
the draft button wont save a draft, but goes back to the main screen of the website. If i go into that post again, it offers to restore what ive typed from a back up, but I still cant save the draft
i unplugged plugins – but I cannot delete any. i have the option there, but when selecting it, i get asked to delete associated files, then go back to the plugin screen, but the plugin is still there

im only using the 2010 template, although i changed the font colours and allowed for a graphics header

everything ive found on the support pages Ive tried – that I can do. Im not a programmer so some of it is beyond me

most of what ive found on here is from previous versions and dated months or years ago.

i have the latest version of WP.

i know it could be related to my host provider, but with so many errors coming up i thought some of this must be related to the site itsef

  • Try renaming your .htaccess file to old.htaccess and then save your permalinks I suggest:

    /%postname%/

(which creates a new clean .htaccess file).

A lot of your URL’s are including index.php where they should not be.

Is WordPress installed in root of host account?

    hi,

thanks for getting back to me and thanks for the information. as far as i know it is installed as the root of the host account – i did it via their website.
i use wordpress and havent chaged the settings when i post so I dont know how to stop the whole ”index” thing from happening.

also, where do i find my htacess? i looked on here, but they seem to gloss over where in the file manager it will be (and which catagory (home directory, web root, public or document ftp)

in addition, i’m going to have to find out how to use permalinks as well.
Im not a programmer,. I didnt want to change anything in the basic set up of wordpress, i picked it for my blog because i thought it just ran

    thanks for your time

The place to find these things out is in the Codex.

Using your favorite search engine will find more relevant information when you use a search like:

    WordPress Codex htaccess

Then make sure the URL you will be taken to is like:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/htaccess

Also, all the content here in the forums is indexed on search engines, so to find information here in the forum, let’s say within the last year, use the tools at the search engine page to filter your search results.

That all said, the file will be in the root of the site, it is a hidden file by default (you must enable view hidden files) – it is in the same folder as the sites wp-config.php file.

You may want to just contact your web host and ask them about this issue.
