• Hi — My editor has suddenly started receiving random emails (like the one below) from WordPress. How do we make them stop? Does this have anything to do with the ShareThis Plugin we recently activated??

Do you have WordPress set to email you when comments are held for moderation?

Honestly that email looks wrong for that, but it could be…

No, we approve or trash comments in WordPress, but they aren’t sent to our emails. Except for these, which mysteriously started appearing.

Do you have pingbacks turned on? No, wait that’s not it at all….

Do you have a contact form? Its robot spammers that post nonsense to any form they find in the hope they stumble across a comment form, guestbook or open forum. It looks like they found your contact form.

If it sees that the first message gets published on the page they then come back and post the real stuff. It can’t tell the difference between a form which posts their message to the page or sends it by email, so you received it as an email.

Some contact forms have anti-spam options – some more successful than others. It may be worth investigating your options if the volume of mail gets annoying.

Oh contact form! I forgot we even had one of those. I will check it out…Thanks!
