I’ve been told by my host (Namecheap) that WordPress plugins could be the cause of my website going down. This is because they could cause my resources hit the max. It’s difficult to ascertain which WordPress plugins could be faulty. Can you look at this list to see which plugins could be bad? I have 8 active plugins (10 in total).

The active plugins I’m using are:

    Akismet
    Compfight
    Disable Title
    Dynamic Widgets
    Exclude Pages from Navigation
    Google Analytics for WordPress
    Moot Forums
Shareaholic | share buttons, analytics, related content

The two inactive plugins are Quick Flickr Widget and Hello Dolly.

    Thank you!

    🙂

Deactivate all plugins. Activate them one by one until you find the problematic one. Once identified, remove the faulty plugin. You can replace with a similar plugin, or if you like that plugin very much, download a fresh copy and install.

Thank you for your reply, Krishna. I was hoping that someone here on this forum could identify a plugin that has a reputation for being a resource hog.

IMHO, the only way to identify a problematic plugin is what I suggested. A plugin that causes problems for your site need not be problematic for me or others simply because we all use different plugins, themes, servers and so many other determiners. And, of course there can be some plugins with known issues. But they are either rectified soon or removed from the plugin’s repository.

Thank you for your advice, Krishna. I appreciate you taking the time to reply. Wouldn’t people here on this forum know plugins with bad reputations?

Namecheap replied to my email. Here are the plugins they said have been known to cause problems:

    Shareaholic
    Compfight
    Moot Forums
    Dynamic Widgets

I’ve deactivated and removed Shareaholic, Compfight and Moot Forums. I’ve just deactivated Dynamic Widgets.
