• Hello, My WP sites are not updating to the latest version. They are stuck on 4.8.3. My dev server/cPanel has 4.8.3 installed and I am not sure if it is some how corrupt and/or causing the problem, but now I have several websites that are not updating and I am starting to experience problems with plugins either not functioning properly or not being compatible at all. How can I get WP to update to the latest version?

    Thank you, Alex

    What happens when you go to dashboard->updates? What do you see there.

    Also, check your wp-config.php file. Do you have any DEFINE statements regarding updates?

    Hi @sterndata, the dashboard says I’m on the latest version:

    You have the latest version of WordPress.

    I’m not sure what you mean by DEFINE statements. Can you give me more info on that? My sysadmin guy insists there is nothing wrong, so it seems I’m on my own….

    Download your wp-config.php file and look for statements that start “DEFINE(” that relate to updates.

    How are you hosting your sites?

    Ok – I am looking at the wp-config.php file. I may have found the problem:

    define( ‘WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE’, false );

    Is this it?

    Yup! Remove that line.

    First I changed it to true, and then I removed the line; saved the file but it is still the same. Latest version is 4.8.3. I also emptied the caches. Still nothing. Any further ideas?

    Thank you Steve

    After you edited the file, did you upload it back to your site?

    I think my problem is with the cPanel controlling the updates. Working on it…Thanks for all your help @sterndata.

    Alex 🙂
