WordPress Managed hosting through Godaddy or not
-
My question for other Godaddy customers: Managed WP hosting or CPanel – when hosting 30-40 WP sites?
Here’s the background that has me not seeing a good option:
I’ve been a customer of Godaddy for 10 years or so. Recently, I noticed my 30-40 WP sites hosted on my account sometimes don’t load or are slow to load. Related to Database connection error that Godaddy admits are related to their servers. I’ve become aware that Godaddy is now pushing their two new hosting products (and not offering their ‘classic hosting’ which I currently have). Those two hosting options are: Managed WordPress Hosting and CPanel Hosting.
I just purchased one Managed WordPress Hosting account to host my personal blog. The auto migration failed miserably and I’m having to manually upload my media and plugins and do lots of manual work. The Godaddy support response was that the migration was a ‘courtesy benefit’ – which is a convenient excuse for a failed feature.
Now I’m discovering there are ‘blacklisted’ plugins that aren’t allowed on sites on WordPress Managed Hosting. Which makes me wonder if the “Managed” in “Managed WordPress Hosting” really stands for “for those who are noobs”
My goal was to speed up my blog and get there to not be so many database connection errors that are caused by Godaddy’s old servers going down – but now I’m finding more limitations on the ‘Managed Hosting’ option.
The CPanel Hosting option seems like a better option – except that a Godaddy support person told me there is a limit on the number of files you can have on your CPanel account. I think it wast 250,000 files. The size doesn’t matter, just the number of files. When I inquired about how many files I currently have in my account, they had no way of telling me (So it begs the question – how can they cap something they can’t count?). I can run a script locally to count files to get an idea of where I’m at, but I’m not willing to download many GBs of files just to count them.
Anyone with experience hosting multiple WP sites at Godaddy, know whether CPanel is worth it? Or if their Managaed Hosting is better – even though I would pay per site and have the blacklisted plugins issue. Or – if I need to do manual work per website migration, are there other hosting companies that have superior products?
Thanks for any advice!
