• I accidentally deleted my WordPress site through my Hostgator account. I paid Hostgator to RECOVER my website (abc-etc.com) and they have done so. The problem is that all of the FILES and the DATABASE are available, but WordPress is redirecting to the INSTALL page but NOT the HOME Page. The database is intact and all files are intact but can’t be seen when I go to the URL (abc-etc.com) it only shows the WordPress Install page. HOW DO I GET WORDPRESS TO LOOK AT THE CORRECT FILES TO SEE MY HOMEPAGE (AND ALL THE OTHER PAGES) ON THE SITE?

  • That’s (normally) an indication of a fresh/blank database. WordPress thinks it hasn’t been installed yet. If you can import the recovered database, that might restore your content.

    Thank you Clayton.

I’m not an expert in computer programming or website development by any means. But when I called Hostgator, the Hostgator helpdesk guy told me that the database was there and had been restored. He said it was the original “backed up” database with all my data/information to restore the site. Since I can’t actually see anything (they are looking at it and I wouldn’t know what to look at even if I could see something) how do I tell Hostgator to import a recovered database? I thought that was what I already paid them money to do (and they said they had done it). I’m open to any suggestions. The Hostgator guy seemed to think it was a WordPress issue and not a database issue. Thanks again for your help on this.

PS I do have access to Filezilla if I should be able to do something with that? Just tell me what/how to get the correct database back. I suspect that is something that Hostgator had backed up – because I had not backed it up. Thanks
