wordpress installation

Hey!
I am downloading and setting up a wordpress theme. I have web hosting set up too.
Down the line we would like to use wordpress for content management – do we need a wordpress account, upload our template to that then use wordpress? How much does that cost per year? Do i need to have extra hosting capabilities?
