wordpress-importer deactivated when migrating

I created a site using a local host. I migrated it to my web host yesterday using these instructions.

Everything went as expected, but still no live site. When I logged into wp to poke around, I found two error messages in the plugins: “The plugin wordpress-importer.php has been deactivated due to an error”. The other was a plugin associated with the theme, but since the theme wasn’t installed, I imagine that’s the cause of that one.

I know just enough to be dangerous, so I am lost with this one. Any suggestions?
