I have just set up a new wordpress 2.5.1 blog. I had another blog (different domain) that was pre-2.5. I upgraded it to 2.5.1 and exported all the posts by a specific author.

I went to my new wordpress, imported the xml file, and mapped the posts to another existing user, but the posts aren’t showing up on the site.

Am I missing a step? I have confirmed that the export file has content in it. I have even tried creating a user to match the old blog and assign those posts to that user, but that has not worked either.

    Any ideas?

  • I’m also having a problem using the import from one WP 2.5.1 blog to another.

I export from the first blog and the file ends up being around 30mb. I then use the Import menu on the other blog, and each time I try to upload it says “Are you sure you want to do this?”

All that does is send me back to upload again, yielding the same result.

What’s going wrong? How can I load the file? Thanks!

Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated. THANK YOU!

Are you by chance using godaddy? It’s a port problem

I’m using midphase to host the site, but GoDaddy is where I manage and purchase my domains.

    Same problem here too.

When importing XML files the size of 30MB, make sure that you have max_file_upload which is set to at least 30MB. Some can set the max_file_upload to this level, some have to rely on webhost to set it up for them and other webhosts do not allow the change.

You could definitely consider splitting the XML file as well 🙂

I have the same problem. I splitted the files, but for some reason only part of the file is imported. Very strange bug.

    Splitting XML files
    – from WP Codex – When XML Import too large
    – XML file Split from Wolfshowl.com – good one, more detailed and it worked on one import for friend with so-so webhost 🙂
    – finally, Google “WordPress XML file split”
