    I’m not sure if this is the place to ask this but I’m hoping you’re point me in the right direction.

    I’ve created a user on the wp support forum with a certain e-mail address. I’ve then decided to change my username to “ciobi”. So I changed my old user e-mail address and tried to register user “ciobi” with that address. It told me the address is already in use. Figured it’s has some time restriction since the address was released.
    So I created this user on my secondary email and then tried to change the mail to the old one after a few weeks. Same problem I assume, since the address wasn’t changed. (The forum profile management needs to give some feedback to the user btw).

    Is there any way to validate the change?

  • You can’t register 2 accounts with the same email address, as far as I know. why not just change your display name in your old account?

    There are still instances where the user is shown, not the name.

    Who should I talk with to delete the old account? I need that address on this account as I plan to use the “This user should be notified of follow-up posts via email” feature.

    Why? Every other web application out there that sends out potentially sensitive information via email (such as passwords) does not allow 2 users to register with the same email address.

    There are still instances where the user is shown, not the name.

    The only place that happens is when you type the user name in as part of the login.

    There isn’t anyone you can speak to. We simply cannot delete old accounts. Full stop.

    Change the address on the old (you don’t want it anymore) account to something else.

    Change THIS account email to the email you do want. You MAY have to trick it with an Uppercase letter (sometimes it gets hinky).

    But no, we don’t delete accounts. Not even for spammers.

    I’ve noticed that the DB doesn’t always ‘let go’ right away. I presume it’s caching/replication but I’ve never actually asked anyone 😉

    I might never let go. First tried it a couple of weeks ago.
