• whn i choose the presentations tab of the wordpress control panel, there’s lines and lines of code in blue, as if a hyperlink, rather than there simply being a list of the themes.

when i choose ‘theme editor’ this is the case again.

i have been editing the css file of my forum but haven’t once touched anything to do with word press.

    my site is http://www.rapnews.co.uk

does anyone know what could have happened?

  • As I said, put it back to your original one and just fix the commented out section at the top with the line breaks. For some reason your css has no line breaks. All css optimizers I have tried remove css that I do not want removed (browser hacks, comments, etc.).

The CU Buffs are getting spanked 🙁

like i said, i followed the instructions but it actually messed up the pages of my site, rather than the behind the scenes wordpress pages which the visitors don’t see.

i dont understand what you mean by:

Then just copy header part back in – try pasting this:

    /*
    Theme Name: rapnews
    Theme URI: http://rapnews.co.uk/
    Description: a theme
    Version: 1.0
    Author: Tony
    */

i pasted this in to the top of the regenerated css to no affect.

Is the admin still messed up ? If so, can you post some screenshots ?

What are you using as an editor? Whenever you view the css file the top should look just like what you posted and not all on one line. Evidently you are saving the file without any line breaks.

Currently your css is all on one line:

I am copying the entire css with no line breaks.
im pasting it into that regenerator on the link provided.
im copying and pasting this newly formatted text.
i’m adding the ‘theme name…etc’ to the top.
im saving it and uploading it.
then my actual site’s appearance becomes distorted.
but the wordpress admin area is fixed.

but obviously the problem is, i need the wordpress area fixed without making a new problem.

im using notepad and im saving as .php

First we fix the css, then we can fix the design.

    Saving what as .php ?

I hope “.css” was intended. As I said, I wouldn’t mess with the other site. Just take the css that is working for you and fix the top. You can worry about the rest later.

sorry i meant save as .css

i would rather the problem with my site be behind the scenes rather than on view for the world to see in an unprofessional manner.

whilst the theme editor of the site isn’t working, the visitors are none the wiser.

when i follow your instructions and correct the theme editor problem, the problems caused on the actual main page of the site are pretty major. everything is out of position, size, style and colour. i dont have the knowledge to correct this myself.

There is nothing that I am suggesting you do that would have any effect whatsoever on the look of your site. It is a portion of the css that is “commented out” and thus is irrelevant to the display.

    Backup your theme css.
Save that copy somewhere safe on your machine and don’t alter it.

right click, ‘select all’ ‘copy’ paste into notepad and save as “style.css”

On the server, rename your CURRENT css to OLDstyle.css

Then upload what you just got from me.

    What does that do ?

And screenshots of the problems would help hugely – I think we are starting to get confused about things. We need to actually see the problem.

This has gone on way to long, just e-mail me a copy of your css 😉 – or use pastebin.com

Sorry if I sound frustrated. I really appreciate your help. It’s very kind of you. But I have followed everything you have told me to do. I can’t see what I’m not doing which you have told me to do.

We’re talking about one site. http://www.rapnews.co.uk and one problem, in the wordpress admin area (invisible to visitors) on the ‘themes’ pages.

I have been trying your suggestions with the .css of this, and this only. It solves the wordpress issue but has negative effects on the main page which visitors see. these effects are huger problems than the original, and visible, and would take far more work to resolve than reversing the actions and dealing with the original problem again.

please don’t be afraid to talk to me in the most basic, primitive, sarcastic language you can manage. i wont be offended!

I cant find your email address bus the .css file is at:
