• I’ve just recently set up an instance of WordPress, and I’d like to somewhat personalize it. However, I only need to skin the CSS.
Is it legal to just skin the ‘WordPress Classic’ (Dave Shea) theme’s CSS?

Thank you, and great software you have!

  • Absolutely, you can modify that. Though, what I’d suggest is to take the contents of the classic directory under /wp-content/themes and make a new directory in the same directory that you name differently.

Now make your changes in the new directory and under the Presentation tab in the Admin panel, select this new “theme” as your default. This way you can modify it to your hearts content while leaving the classic theme around as a reference, if need be.

That sounds great, thank you for the quick reply!

And there are a lot of helpful tips and information on how to do all this on the WordPress Codex, the official documentation site, especially in WordPress Lessons and Blog Design and Layout.
