• Hello,
I’m just completing my first week of blogging and although I got WordPress running without the ‘referrer’ problems some people have… Today, I ran into a biggy..

I went to upload files to my regular site through both WSFTP and Dreamweaver and I could not – my ISP said that WordPress had installed a firewall and now I would have to disable it to upload any files through FTP.

I don’t know about firewalls and the like so I don’t know how to disable it…
I was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem – The only other thing I have done recently is install pmwiki but I searched for info on that one and there was nothing about firewalls (same here with Word PRess).

I’m stumped… (and shut -out!!) Any insight would be much appreciated.

    Sue
(P.S. I can access my site through the site’s admin area but that’s a pain because I can’t upload files as easily).

  • Your ISP is dumb. Nothing you do in WordPress will affect your FTP access to the folders. Simply put, it *can’t* happen. It sounds like they messed something up on their end.

Thank you… the ISP fixed the problem but did not explain how…. I guess you were right!

I would think about switching hosting companies if their customer support thinks that a blogging software has a firewall built-in.

It may have been an issue of your ISP blocking certain ports that are known to be used with P2P software. Many internet providers have been doing that lately due to increased pressure from the RIAA, MPAA, et al. Especially if it “magically” fixed itself…? Glad to hear you got it working though. 🙂
