I started getting “An active PHP session was detected” with our plugin a couple of WordPress versions ago. However as I look to tackle the issue, in 5.6 this warning is now gone. The plugin has not adjusted the session_start() behaviour, yet.

Wondering if this was a false positive and is now ok, or if this warning is now bugged/not triggering properly.

Ideally I know we should move away from using session_start still.

  • Hey there! It doesn’t seem that any changes occurred recently that could break this. Could you provide more details? What plugin was causing the error?

Sorry, going to mark this as resolved for now as I think it just hadn’t been triggered yet. It’s a clone of a site, and while I’ve been using it for a bit, it wasn’t until I deactivated and activated another plugin that the session error is now back.

I had reviewed the WordPress files and didn’t notice a change to get_test_php_sessions behaviour either, so I was puzzled a bit. Thanks for your speedy response! 🙂
