WordPress 4.4 compatibility
-
today I updated to WP 4.4 and after doing so the <title> tag for my podcasts comes up empty, which of course breaks directory listings on iTunes etc. I’m using category podcasting.
I tested this on another unrelated site that I manage. RSS is fine on WP 4.3.1 but after installing 4.4 the title is blank.

Update:
It seems if i put a custom name in the “Feed Title” in the feed settings it’s ignored and nothing in <title> is populated. If I leave it blank then it will use “Site name – Category name” which is wrong, it used to only use Category name. Can you provide a link to the feed in question?
Did you make sure you cleared caches after updating WordPress?
I don’t use any caching feature or plugin.

The name should be “Svamppod” and this used to work prior to WP4.4 when I left the name blank.Another feed example from the other site i manage: http://playbeforeyoudie.com/category/playbeforeyoudie/feed/
I’m having the exact same issue.
I also logged into iTunes to see if it was just me… I saw probably 15 other podcasts that all say “No Title” in iTunes today. I’m thinking there are some compatibility issues with PowerPress and WP 4.4.
Here’s the link to my feed as well:
http://multiplyauthority.com/category/podcast/feed/I just deleted the title in the settings so it would show something instead of “No Title” on iTunes. But, like the OP, it’s the wrong title.
I’ve been working on a fix since your 2nd reply. I have a version ready but I am not ready to release, I am testing backwards compatibility with older versions of WordPress at the moment.
WordPress 4.4 removed the get_bloginfo_rss(‘name’) from RSS titles. I was unaware of this change, we never saw any depreciated alerts in our tests and did not catch changes to the title field during our testing.
I’m embarrassed about the bug and working frantically to have an update in place.
You are welcome to download the development version (tested for WP 4.4) https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/powerpress.zip Do not install the development version on older WordPress installations though, I have not confirmed yet that the new version is backwards compatible.
6.2.2 addresses this problem and has been released.
Again I am so sorry we did not catch this problem sooner.
If I set the title manually it works fine with the new version, but if I leave it blank it still populates it as Category name – Site name. Shouldn’t it just be Category name?
Actually no, all category feeds by default have the category name – site name in them from WordPress by default. We only override that behavior when you set a custom title. If you disable PowerPress the category title – site title should remain in the category feed.
I still have no title in iTunes even though I only updated the plugin to 6.2.2, not WP, which is still 4.3.1.
I’ve logged a bug report on the official plugin forum a few days ago but haven’t heard anything back.
EntBuddha, please reply wit the link to our forum where you posted the question. I will follow up with our staff see why it was not answered.
If you are using the feed maximizer option then that may explain the issue. If you do not want to wait for PowerPress 6.3, please download the pre release here: https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/powerpress.zip. Otherwise, a fix will be released either late tonight or tomorrow.
Hey Angelo,
I first jumped in this thread which had a similar topic https://forum.blubrry.com/index.php/topic,6833.0.html
Then when I didn’t hear anything I submitted a new bug https://forum.blubrry.com/index.php/topic,6842.0.html
I don’t believe I’m using feed maximizer, I have mine set to don’t enhance feeds.
Can you please test the next release to see if it fixes your issue? You will need FTP access to do so. Here is the link to the build: https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/powerpress.zip
Angelo,
Looks like that worked. Plugin still reads 6.2.2 in Bb, but I just overwrote the existing directory with the new one you linked to me.

Is <title> under <image> supposed to be blank? Never looked at it before so not sure if that’s by default or not. Either way the main <title> is back in the feed, so should get picked up by iTunes soon.
Appreciated.
No title under image must match the title under the podcast, looking into it now…
