I deactivated all plugins and reactivated. That did not solve it either.
Try setting permalinks to default as a test.
@lynluo as radices mentioned above, go back to Settings > Permalinks and choose the default permalink and save, then go back and change to something other than the default permalinks and save. The check what’s in your .htaccess file

That works, but I need the post name as a permalink. Or i’ll lose my SEO integrity.
… then go back and change to something other than the default permalinks and save.
.. or back to your preferred permalink and save

Had to find my root htaccess in my ftp and replace the syntax that was given by wordpress. Reverted back to post name as permalink – now works.
Hi lynluo, can you please post you htaccess? I have the same issue. Thank you.
I had the same issue. Went to Permalinks settings, changed to default and saved….nothing. Then went back to permalinks and changed to the setting I originally had (sitename/page) and saved and everything went back to normal. π Thanks.
Doesn’t work for me π What is the content of your htaccess, dickbfield?

Play with the different permalinks setting. The htacess file should be at the bottom of your permalinks settings? once you update. I believe everyones code is different. You just have to copy what wordpress gave you and replace it with what is currently in your htacess file.
I asked because I haven’t changed my htaccess (it is still the default one) an thought you have customized yours.
I also have already ruled out the permalink settings’ issue by playing with it the way you just described.
Anyway, I have to make clear that the 404 not found error occurs only with pages (I have pages both with and without custom templates). Categories and posts work fine.
