• When the new update with the Web Application Firewall is installed, it breaks sites on certain hosting providers. It also messes up the CDN connections.
I lost a whole day trying to get to the root cause and am still not fully recovered. Please test this plugin with the big CDN Providers and also the major Hosting ones. I had to back out everything to get them to work again. Very time consuming and sad. I’ve never had a problem with WordFence until the Web Application Firewall feature. And you cannot turn it off so the only option to fix it is to take everything back to an earlier release.

When will you have an option to turn this off or a fix for it?
    Thank you.

    Hi,

Sorry to hear about the trouble — can you tell me what breaks? Are you seeing error messages, or other types of problems?

You should be able to turn off the firewall by going to the Firewall page on the Wordfence menu and selecting “Disabled” in the first box.

We have seen a few cases where a combination of the WordPress 4.5 update and the Wordfence update, coupled with external caching caused issues with either css or javascript files being cached (usually on Varnish — I haven’t seen any on CDNs yet). In these cases, flushing the external cache / CDN content may help. You can also turn off “Hide WordPress version” near the bottom of the Wordfence options page — this will change query strings on static assets which can cause caches to get a fresh copy.

I think it has something to do with the hosting environment because clients on one of the two hosting services were fine, including the CDN. The ones hosted at the other service showed images as black and the slider show didn’t work at all. As soon as I put the site back to the older version of WordFence, and upgraded everything else except WordFence, it worked well again.

I love this Plugin and I”m sure this new feature is wonderful. I’ll be happy to send you the hosting service as it is one of the biggest. I’ll need your email address though. Thank you for helping on this.

    Hi,

Thanks for the additional details. If you can just send it to wftest [at] wordfence.com, and include a link to this post, I will check it out.
